Overview

Our client, the occupier of an industrial unit in St Austell, appointed Vickery Holman to reduce their business rates outgoings.

Situation

Half of the unit was undergoing a programme of reconfiguration works between March and November 2023 and our Client remained liable for the full business rates liability relating to the entire unit.

Solution

We carried out an inspection and noted the part of the unit undergoing works could not be occupied to the benefit of our client and we applied to have the area removed from the 2023 Rating List whilst works were ongoing.

Outcome

The outcome was the removal the relevant part of the assessment from the 2023 Rating List, reducing the rateable value from £108,000 to £67,500 and resulting in savings of £13,000 for our client over an eight-month period.
