Home / Case Studies / Industrial Unit, Totnes
Our client, the occupier of an industrial unit in Totnes, appointed Vickery Holman to reduce their business rates outgoings.
The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) had erroneously included a mezzanine within the business rates assessment; our client was therefore paying business rates for an area of the property which did not exist.
We carried out an inspection and noted there was no mezzanine in the property. We submitted a Check to the VOA with a floor plan including the true floor areas of the unit, supported by photographic evidence.
The outcome was the removal the relevant part of the assessment from the 2017 Rating List, reducing the rateable value from £10,500 to £6,900 and resulting in savings of circa £9,000 for our client.
