Our client, the occupier of a prominent retail unit in Truro, instructed Vickery Holman to review their business rates assessment.
The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) had separate assessments listed for the retail unit and first floor office space, resulting in our client overpaying.
We carried out an inspection and drew detailed floor plans, which were submitted to the VOA to show the retail area and first floor offices were contiguous.
The outcome was the merging of the retail unit and offices to create one new assessment, and the removal of the offices from the Rating List. This resulted in circa £8,000 in savings for our client.
