APC Valuation Pathway – the view from Pip Walker
I have been with Vickery Holman for just over two years, starting my surveying career just before covid struck! Thankfully I was lucky to land on my feet in the Bristol office, working in what was a small team at the time, I was welcomed and supported by my fellow colleagues. Two years later, we have doubled in size and I work alongside a varied team, from highly experienced individuals who have a great depth of knowledge, and those who are 2 years PQE, have the APC still fresh in their mind and have helped guide me through the APC process.
I came to Vickery Holman after several years as a residential estate agent in London while also studying for an MSc in International Real Estate. I’m now undertaking my APC Valuation Pathway, and have been supported through the process by my colleagues and APC counsellor. We benefit from regular training days at Vickery Holman, which cover varied topics with practical sessions, such as on site inspection and measurement, to more theory based topics such as building construction or ethics. These days are a great way for building knowledge but also working together as a team.
My day to day work is varied which is really important to me, it keeps me on my toes and I’m never short of a new challenge. My valuation work covers a wide range of property types, from retail and industrial units to residential developments. I also have an active role within the Business Rates team which often involves more interaction with clients which I find rewarding. I have really enjoyed my first few years at Vickery Holman and look forward to what’s to come!
