Positive news for Looe this week with agents Vickery Holman reporting the successful conclusion to their marketing of the Globe Inn. Standing opposite to the train station at the gateway to the town the pub has been an eyesore for some time and the new publicans first job is to redecorate and refurbish.
The Globe Inn is owned by a Wellington pub company who hold an estate of public houses across the country, and they instructed commercial agents Vickery Holman to find new operators earlier this year.
Michael Easton at Vickery Holman handled the process and confirmed that despite the condition of the building there was considerable interest and a number of applicants to consider. The pub has been taken by experienced couple Amanada Wernham and Shane Norris, who many will know from the nearby Copley Arms at Hessenford and The Crow’s Nest Inn at Darite, just outside of Liskeard.
Amanda comments ‘We have known the Globe Inn for many years and remember it for what it was rather than what it is at present. We had been keeping an eye on it and when it came available, we had a strong business plan ready to go. Our aim is to refurbish the public bar and restaurant to be welcoming customers in in good time for Christmas. There will be a new commercial kitchen, and the front will be an asset to the town, not a detraction.’ Shane continues ‘Now we have the keys the hard work begins and we both cannot wait to welcome back the locals, who have been popping in already asking when we will be open. Whilst we know that the pub will take hard work and dedication, it is not something that fazes us and as locals ourselves, we feel positive that we will get the offer just right.’
Michael Easton adds ‘Amanda and Shane were very good applicants and I look forward to seeing the pub back on its feet again and being the welcoming entrance to Looe that it once was. It comes at a time when, despite the challenges in the industry, we are still seeing good operators achieve growth. This comes at a time when there are several new openings on the horizon, once again showing the resilience of the hospitality sector.’
