It’s hard to believe that I have hit the 6-month mark working as a Graduate in the Valuation team at Vickery Holman. Although looking back on the past 6 months feels like a blur, it allows me to reflect on the development in my knowledge in comparison to my first day.
Before starting at Vickery Holman, I had a Post Graduate Certificate in Real Estate Management, however I was working in sales, unsure of my future career prospects. Vickery Holman has given me the opportunity to pursue a Master’s in this field, with the goal of eventually sitting the APC to become a Chartered Surveyor. Throughout this journey, they have been incredibly supportive, allowing me dedicated study time during the working week and providing ample training opportunities. I even feel like I am beginning to get the hang of the various methods of measurement needed for different types of property (which seemed near impossible at first), thanks to a dedicated measurement training day.
I have been involved in inspections of a wide variety of properties within the South West, ranging from single dwellings, development sites, plenty of HMO’s, industrial and retail units and even an island, for various purposes, including loan security, acquisition and compulsory purchase. This has provided me with opportunities to apply my learning into practice. I have also attended a number of networking events, where it has been great to meet other professionals in Plymouth.
Overall, I have enjoyed my journey so far and I am looking forward to seeing what the next 6 months will bring.
